The 16th Sabah State Election: Kadazandusun Politics and the Huguan Siou Factor

This article analyses the 16th Sabah State Election, focusing on Kadazandusun-majority seats. It is based an ethnographic study comprising interviews with candidates and casual conversations local people in "competitive" Kadazandusun seats such as Matunggong, Kiulu, Moyog, Tambunan, Keningau, Sook, Nabawan, Tenom Melalap. The results of election showed that voted for status quo. In addition, following trend GE14, Gabungan Rakyat (GRS) managed to maintain its strong presence areas. argues ethnic personality politics play instrumental role determining support GRS particularly STAR (Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku Sabah/Homeland Solidarity Party) PBS Bersatu Sabah/Sabah United Party).
